As I write this post, I’m still overwhelmed by the way you embraced my last post. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to every one who took time to read my story. It wasn’t just a story of my miscarriage; it was a testimony of how God’s peace is available to us even in the darkest of times.
Today, I want to share with you how I cultivate an atmosphere of peace in my life and home.
Cultivating an atmosphere of peace
I strive to create an atmosphere of peace in two main areas of my life: in my mind and in my presence. Often the worst source of stress for me are my very own thoughts, that’s why I fill my mind with God’s thoughts toward me rather than my own thoughts about myself. Thinking about how He loves me, has plans for me, and orders my steps strengthens me with a solid assurance.
Some of my favorite verses for mediating about peace are:
It's hard to stay anxious or afraid while simultaneously singing about The One in whom we trust. Just like the distressing spirit left Saul when David played the harp, I use music to de-stress my physical environment. Recently, Family Christian sent me Hillsong’s latest album Open Heaven/River Wild to check it out and let them know my thoughts.
The second time I listened to it, I was in my car. I’d had a trying day and just needed to get away by myself for a few hours. As the music started to play, my heaviness began to dissipate. The first song opened with the line, “I cast my mind to Calvary where Jesus bled and died for me.” Note by note, I could feel my stress melting away as I envisioned myself laying down my burdens at the foot of the cross. The entire CD has a powerful, soothing effect. Another one of my favorites from the album was the Transfiguration song by worship leader Taya Smith, who previously led the popular song Oceans.
If you want peace and would like to start setting up an atmosphere of peace in your own life, I have great news!
